Celebrate Juneteenth with The 1865 Society of Pender County

The 1865 Society of Pender County was founded in 2023 to commemorate the historical significance of Juneteenth. The non-profit organization has grown and hosts other events throughout the year. Yet, it is the Juneteenth celebration that draws attendees to the Pender County Courthouse Square to celebrate African American heritage and the impact Pender County's citizens have had on the fabric of our community.

On June 27, the Juneteenth Celebration will begin at 10 a.m., featuring exhibits, a fashion show, live entertainment, vendors, and food trucks. Bring your lawn chairs and kick back for a good time.

Stay for the 2026 Juneteenth Gospel Concert, starting at 5 p.m. on the Courthouse Square. The free concert will feature Monica Ross & Family, Chris Ledbetter & Friends, and Andre Murrill & Kids. James Murphy will serve as the Master of Ceremonies at the concert.

The mission of The 1865 Society of Pender County is "the commitment to keeping alive the relevant culture and history of African Americans; to recognize the contributions to the development of this country by African Americans. Through educational programs, community engagement and social interactions, we aim to foster a deep understandng of our shared heritage and promote unity within Pender County, within the great state of North Carolina, and within America."
