A Weekend with Diana Gabaldon Highlights the 2026 North Carolina First in Freedom Festival

The North Carolina First in Freedom Festival, in partnership with Moores Creek National Battlefield, the Moores Creek Battleground Association, and supporting partners, is proud to present an exceptional two-day literary and historical experience featuring world-renowned author Diana Gabaldon, celebrated creator of the Outlander series. Taking place  February 27–28, 2026 , this exclusive weekend of programs will honor the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Moores Creek Bridge, one of America’s earliest and most consequential Patriot victories.

These special events begin with An Evening with Diana Gabaldon at the historic Penderlea Auditorium. This intimate program will feature engaging conversation, storytelling, and insights from the bestselling author whose work has brought colonial America to life for millions of readers. The evening includes an opportunity for a backstage meet-and-greet, giving fans the chance to meet Ms. Gabaldon in person and take photos.

On Saturday morning, attendees will be invited to walk in the footsteps of history during a conducted and guided tour of Moores Creek National Battlefield in Currie. Led by a National Park Service ranger and joined by Diana Gabaldon, this immersive tour explores the terrain, turning points, and enduring significance of the 1776 battle that helped secure North Carolina’s legacy as “First in Freedom.”

The weekend continues with a special book signing event at Lucas Farm, offering fans another opportunity to meet Diana Gabaldon in a scenic and historic rural setting.

These programs, which are ticketed events and include Diana, are part of the North Carolina First in Freedom Festival, an eastern North Carolina and statewide celebration commemorating America’s 250th anniversary and highlighting North Carolina’s pivotal contributions to the nation’s fight for independence. Pender County is proud to join statewide partners in elevating history, culture, and community throughout 2026.

Tickets go on sale Friday, Nov. 28.
