Ocean Fest, a Topsail Island-based festival featuring live music, vintage surf competitions and environmental programming, was notified by the Southeast Festivals and Events Association following their annual conference in February.
“Ocean Fest is honored to receive the national Green Initiative,” said Liz Trojoan, Ocean Fest director. “Ocean Fest’s goal is to have a successful community event while infusing eco education. Being able to help make changes in our area and support like-minded conservation efforts is why we do what we do.”
Receiving the Best Event Impact Support Award for its collaboration with Wilmington Compost Company was an honor.
“Ocean Fest is a collection of environmentally conscious organizations,” said Trojan. “We value the partnership we have with Wilmington Compost Company.”
There were 187 applications submitted from across the Southeast, from Maryland to Texas, according to the Southeast Festivals and Events Association. The competition reflected the creativity, scale, and impact of festivals and events that continue to drive tourism.
“The Kaleidoscope Awards celebrate the passion and innovation that power our industry,” said Amy Doherty, SFEA Board Chair. She added that festivals and events are creating experiences that leave lasting impressions on their communities and raise the standard for excellence across the Southeast.
Trojan expressed her appreciation to the Pender County Tourism Development Authority for the support the tourism industry provides Ocean Fest.
“We value the work Ocean Fest does to raise awareness of our environment,” said Susan Griffin, chair of the Pender County Tourism Development Authority. “Ocean Fest makes a positive impact on the community we call home.”
