For fresh Mediterranean meals, visit Baba's

Ali Guner, the owner of Baba’s Mediterranean Grill, celebrated the restaurant’s first anniversary in Surf City. But Guner brings years of restaurant experience.

“In New York, we offered fine dining,” he said, noting his more than 20 years in the restaurant industry.

The menu at Baba’s Mediterranean Grill is extensive and delicious.

“Everything is made homemade,” said Guner. “Very little is ever fried.”

The menu features kebabs, gyros, wraps, sandwiches, hummus, calamari, burgers, and of course, baklava that drips honey. Baba’s offers vegan and gluten-free options.

“Our chicken shawarma platter is very popular,” Guner explained.

The chicken shawarma is flavorful and tender, but not spicy.

However, equally popular at Baba’s are kebabs, gyros, and salads. While we visited, we saw many smash burgers ordered as well as iskender kebab platters. Iskender kebabs have a crispy pita that is topped with gyro meat, red source, hot butter, rice, and yogurt.

Five different salads appear on the menu, including Greek salad, bean salad, choban salad, red tabouleh salad, and quinoa salad. The fresh feta cheese melts in your mouth.

The sandwiches and burgers include meat gyro sandwiches, chicken gyro, chicken shawarma, smash burgers, and double-smash burgers.

The platters, which come with side dishes, include the gyro platter, chicken gyro, chicken shawarma, vegan platter, chicken kebab, beef kebab, iskender kebab, crispy fried calamari, and fish and chips.

The variety of wraps includes gyro meat, chicken gyro, chicken shawarma, vegan, fish, and beef kebab.

Meals are also served in bowls, such as the meat gyro bowl, vegan, calamari, and more.

Sides include Mediterranean delicacies such as hummus, tabbouleh, tzatziki sauce, babaganoush, falafel, dolma stuffed grape leaves, and spanakopita.

“We offer dine-in or carry-out,” added Guner. There are also a couple of tables for outside seating as well.

Guner, who was born in Turkey, offers catering.

“We cater customized Mediterranean foods,” said Guner. “We cater to the needs and size of the party.”
