Pender County Tourism releases a music video

BURGAW -  Pender County Tourism is pleased to release a music video. The video spotlights generations families and friends, yesterday and today, who have found Topsail Island to be a great place to vacation and fellowship.

The song is written by the talented songwriter Charles Albertson, a retired North Carolina State Senator. He is widely known as “North Carolina’s Singing Senator.”

Albertson has written more than 75 songs and produced six compact discs. His latest CD, 18th Avenue, features his song about Topsail Island, 18th Avenue. The CD will be available at local retail stores in the Greater Topsail Area.

“Mr. Albertson gave Pender County Tourism his song to use to promote the island,” said Tammy Proctor, Pender County tourism director. “His song demonstrates what every resident and visitor to Topsail Island knows – it’s a great place to kick back with friends and family.”

Albertson said he got the idea for the song from a friend.

“When I asked one of my friends what he was going to do for the weekend, he said, ‘I’m going down to 8th Avenue, on Topsail Island and some of friends and I are going to cook some steaks or stew, maybe have a glass of wine and have a good time,’” recalled Albertson. “I could tell he was excited and was looking forward to it.”

“I thought he said 18th Avenue. So, driving home, I could visualize it all taking place on 18th Avenue and when I got home I had part of the song written,” said Albertson.

“Mr. Albertson has been delightful to work with,” said Proctor. “We collaborated with Jeff Wenzel from Above Topsail for the video. Rose Peters, director of the Missiles and More Museum, and Todd Rademacher, Surf City planning director, helped us gather the older photos. We’re pleased with the finished product.”
