Ash's Japanese Maple Nursery

Ash's Japanese Maple Nursery

Nestled in 11 acres of a southern pine and hardwood forest, Ash's Japanese Maple Nursery contains over 80 varieties of Japanese Maples from 2-30 years old. The nursery resembles a botanical garden with its meandering grass paths and rows of trees. Sections of the Nursery are in high forest shade for a pleasant walk in the summer months though other sections are in full sun. The Nursery's specialty is the styling or shaping of dissectum or lace leaf maples into artistic bonsai styles from 3-8 feet high and 10 feet across. The Nursery grounds also contain a Japanese Garden with a large koi pond, running stream and Japanese style garden house.

Harbour Village Marina is a private nbsp;ownership marina located on the Intracoastal Waterway at mile marker #267, behind Topsail Island. (N34'23.173, W77'38.251) The marina offers it members the use of a boat ramp, free parking, a picnic area, and floating dock facilities. These facilities are for the use of members or guests accompanied by members, only. The marina lounge is handicap accessible and offers both gas and diesel fuels, showers, lounge, 30/50 amp power connections, and pump-out services. Transient boaters are welcome, but reservations are required. Please contact the Harbour Master for details. Both fuel and pump-out services are available to the general public.

Located on the mainland side just west of the Surf City Bridge, the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue Rehabilitation Center is a nonprofit organization whose mission is the rescue, rehabilitation and release of sick and injured sea turtles. An important component of the mission is education outreach pertaining to sea turtles, the ocean and conservation. Come and see the recovering turtles and take a tour of our facility. We have lots of turtle items in the gift shop that are sure to delight you and their purchase helps to fund our program. We are an all volunteer run organization and appreciate your support. Moores Creek National Battlefield

Moores Creek National Battlefield

Site of one of the first battles in the South of the Revolutionary War and the first patriot victory of the war. Throughout the park, remnants remain of the 1776 road traveled by patriot and loyalist forces. A .7-mile trail with wayside exhibits leads through the battlefield and across Moores Creek. The historic bridge site is located along the trail. The park offers a visitor center with exhibits, lighted troop movement maps and film; a .3 mile colonial forest trail, and a picnic area.

Osgood Canal Greenway and Urban Trail is a 2.2 mile loop of asphalt and concrete walking trails in and around the central portion of the town limits. The trail follows the Osgood Canal through town and offers walks through wooded areas along the canal, through urban areas in the downtown, connects to the schools located in town and offers the convenience of both passive parks and playground parks along the way. The Penderlea Homestead Museum is housed in one of the first homesteads built in 1936 by the Department of the Interior on Penderlea Homestead Farms, a resettlement community in Pender County developed under Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal. Museum sponsored efforts resulted in the listing of Penderlea Homestead Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places 9-27-13. This is a large rural historic district of farms, dwellings, and a school on approximately 4,250 acres.

Rotary Park

Rotary Park includes play equipment for all ages including a tot lot, play structure for older children and swings. There is also a pavilion with restrooms and picnic tables. The pavilion at this park cannot be reserved and is on a first come, first served basis. Rotary Park is nestled among large shade trees with plenty of grassy areas for children to run and play. Rotary Park is located on Industrial Drive between the Burgaw Middle School and Cape Fear Community College and is just off the Osgood Canal Greenway and Urban Trail.
